		<description><![CDATA[<p><b>Thursday,&nbsp;May 18, 2012</b></p><p><b>Day 5</b></p><p><b>Attention seniors: </b>Senior Prom tickets must be purchased&nbsp;TODAY. No tickets will be sold after Friday, May 18th.</p><p><b>Attention all: </b>the Project Graduation Committee still has available the blue string backpacks with the large &ldquo;E&rdquo; for East on them for $8 each. They are the perfect size to carry gym clothes, items for a day trip, or school books. If you are interested in obtaining one please contact Nella Fulco at 860-729-4538 or <a href="mailto:nellafulco@cox.net">nellafulco@cox.net</a>.</p><p><b>Attention all students:</b></p><p><b>Detention:</b> All hours of detention must be served before the close of the school year. For seniors, that means prior to any Senior Activities. If a senior has outstanding hours, they will begin to lose participating in those activities.</p><p>For all other students, the hours must be served prior to exams. Be sure you check the detention schedule with Mrs. Sprankle and plan accordingly. It is the student&rsquo;s responsibility to serve these hours.</p><p><b>Drivers Education:</b> All-Star Driver will be holding driver's education classes at East Catholic High School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. in Room 120. Store Hours: First and third Thursday and Friday of each month from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and from 1:30 to 2:20 p.m. Prices for other items including lanyards, ECHS auto decals and hats range from $1 - $25. A limited number of school supplies are also being sold at a low price.<i> We accept cash or check.</i></p><p><strong>GHCEA Scholarship: </strong>reminder that<strong> </strong>applications&nbsp;are due on Wednesday, May 23rd&nbsp;by 2pm to Mr. Roberts in room 122.</p><p><b>Kairos: </b>all KAIROS Alumni are welcome to join us for our "Live the 4th" gathering being held on WEDNESDAY, MAY 23rd from 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. in Campus Ministry.</p><p><b>Lost and Found:</b> the <b>&ldquo;Lost and Found&rdquo;</b> <b>is located in Campus Ministry</b>. Soph. Jr.).</p><p><b>Rosary:</b> all are welcome to join us in reciting the Rosary every Friday morning at 7:20 a.m. in our Notre Dame chapel.</p><p><strong>Music Department: </strong>all music department members participating in the festival this weekend are reminded that the call time is 7:15 am tomorrow. <br /><br /><strong>Concert Band:</strong> will rehearse Monday at 7am for graduation. All music department members must turn in folders and music. The last concert lunch of the year will be next Wednesday, May 23rd. You are invited to this final opportunity to share your talent and hear your classmates share theirs. Hoyt, to personally recognize students from Northwest Catholic, Saint Paul Catholic, Sacred Heart, and East Catholic High Schools who have achieved academic excellence, as well as the Catholic school teachers they identify as having been most influential to their success.</span></span></span></p><p><span size="3"><span color="#000000"><span face="Arial"></span></span></span><span size="3"><span color="#000000"><span face="Arial">To qualify for a Summa Scholar honor, a student must have, at minimum, an overall 4.3 grade point average, or a 98% average for grades 9 through the first two quarters of grade 12. Each student then selects one teacher from either a Catholic elementary or secondary school to be recognized for having dedicated his or her life to Catholic education and for making a significant impression on the student&rsquo;s exceptional academic accomplishments.</span></span></span></p><p><span size="3"><span color="#000000"><span face="Arial"></span></span></span><span size="3"><span color="#000000"><span face="Arial">Each student Summa Scholar will receive a bronze medallion engraved with the crest of the Archdiocese and the prayer, &ldquo;May you find truth through faith, knowledge, and wisdom.&rdquo; The students will then present certificates of recognition to their mentor teacher.</span></span></span></p><p><span size="3"><span color="#000000"><span face="Arial"></span></span></span><span size="3"><span color="#000000"><span face="Arial">Superintendent Dale R. Hoyt has invited Dr. Pamela Reid, President of Saint Joseph College, to give a brief address at the April ceremony, offering hope and encouragement to the students as they move forward into higher education. Other distinguished guests participating in the upcoming ceremony include Fr. Mark Jette, Pastor, St Lawrence Parish and the 2011-2012 Archdiocesan Distinguished Elementary School Pastor, and Maria Maynard, Assistant Superintendent of Catholic Schools.</span></span></span></p><p><span size="3"><span color="#000000"><span face="Arial"></span></span></span><span size="3"><span color="#000000"><span face="Arial">Hoyt established the Superintendent&rsquo;s Summa Scholar Award in 2011 in order to applaud the excellence found in Catholic school education. &ldquo;This type of recognition acknowledges the academic distinction that is the hallmark of our schools and gives us the opportunity to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of both students and faculty. Along with the parents and guardians of our student honorees, we take great pride in their superlative academic performance which we know will lead them to futures bright with promise, and as the Summa Scholars express their appreciation for their mentor teachers, the exceptional dedication of these fine educators is showcased in a very moving way.
