About ECHS

 "We hope for what we do not see."  

East Catholic High School offers a Catholic, college preparatory, values-based education for students of all races, creeds, and ethnic origins within an authentically Catholic, yet ecumenically sensitive community. Since its founding in 1961, the school has endeavored to educate the whole person, striving to guide students along the path of achieving academic excellence, personal growth, and social commitment. Students from more than 30 towns in the Greater Hartford and Northeast region of CT choose to attend East Catholic. East Catholic is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the state of Connecticut. It is recognized nationally as a "Blue Ribbon School of Excellence" by the U.S. Department of Education.

ENROLLMENT

  • Enrollment figure for 2010-11 is 683 students.

  • 80% of students at East participate in athletic and/or co-curricular activities.

FACULTY

  • 81% of teachers at East have a master's degree; 19% have 30 hours beyond the master's; two have doctorates.   

  • Support services are provided by a team of five guidance counselors, a social worker, a full-time nurse, three campus ministers, and a priest.

ACADEMICS

  • 100% of ECHS Class of 2010 graduates attend college; 90.4% attend a four-year college, 8.5% at a two-year, 1.1% at a preparatory school.

  • All students in the ECHS Class of 2010 took the SATs. Mean scores were: 552 critical reading; 577 math; 556 writing. The State of CT mean scores were 503 for critical reading, 508 for math, and 506 for writing.

  • One student in the Class of 2010 was a National Merit Finalist; six were recognized as National Merit Commended Students; three scored a perfect 800 on the SAT.

  • Graduates in the Class of 2010 were offered more than $8 million in college scholarships and grants.

  • Honors and/or Advanced Placement courses are offered all four years. Students may earn college credit through Advanced Placement courses. In the May 2010 Advanced Placement testing at East Catholic, 103 tests (94%) received scores of 3 or higher, of which 40 received a 4 and 38 received a 5. All 8 students who took the AP Biology exam scored a perfect 5.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • The school has a mandatory uniform dress code that changes seasonally. Specific information on uniforms and dress code are found in the student handbook.

  • Bus transportation is available from some towns.
